Local 703 Organizes 30 New Members, Negotiates 5-Year Contract

Teamsters Local 703’s membership continued to expand in 2013 as warehouse workers at Midwest Foods overwhelmingly voted to join the union.

Approximately 30 distribution employees and drivers joined Local 703’s family of thousands of grocery, produce, food processing and beer delivery workers. The Midwest employees distribute an abundance of grocery products from a 70,000-square-foot warehouse at 36th St. and Kedzie Avenue to supermarkets across Chicago and its suburbs.

“Midwest Foods is a terrific Teamster employer that knows the value of having a highly skilled, well-compensated workforce,” said Tony Carioscia, Local 703 Trustee and Business Agent. “For everything from dairy products to frozen food, meat, dry goods and specialty items, the Teamsters at Midwest take pride every day to deliver the best possible products to families throughout Chicagoland.”

Before the end of the year, Local 703 representatives successfully negotiated a first contract for the new members. The five-year agreement includes fair wage increases each year of the deal, better benefits and the security of the Teamsters’ grievance procedure.

Teamsters Local 703 is an affiliate of Teamsters Joint Council 25, America’s premier labor union for Chicago, Illinois and northwest Indiana.
