Howard Murdoch began his Teamster career in 1977 as a dock worker and warehouseman for Dominick's Finer Foods. He was first elected a Teamsters Local 703 steward in 1990. Three years later, he was elected to the position of Trustee on the Local 703 Executive Board and was seated with Secretary-Treasurer Thomas W. Stiede in 1994. The same year, Howard became a trustee of the Chicago-Area Benefit Trust Funds. He became Chairman of the funds in 1995. In 2008, he joined Recording Secretary, David McLin, as a Fund Trustee for the Beer Division.


Recording Secretary & Business Agent

Recording Secretary David McLin first joined the union as a member of Teamsters Local 705, working as a loader for UPS in 1983. Two years later, he started working in the warehouse division for Dominick's Finer Foods. He was first elected a Local 703 steward in 1988. David was elected the Local's Recording Secretary in 2000 — a position he has proudly held for 15 years. He is also a Fund Trustee for the Teamsters Beer Division. David attended Alabama State University and remains a member of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity and regularly mentors inner city youth.

Since 1987, Sam Scianna has been a dedicated member, leader and representative of Teamsters Local 703. He began his Teamster career more than 25 years ago working in the produce division on Chicago's South Water Market. He was elected a union steward by his co-workers and appointed a Local 703 Sergeant-at-Arms. In 1993, Sam began representing members directly as a union business agent. In 1996, he joined Secretary-Treasurer Tom Stiede on the Executive Board as a Trustee. Alongside fellow Trustee Tony Carioscia, Sam has made union organizing a top priority at Local 703, organizing and welcoming more than 500 new members into the local.

Thomas W. Stiede has been a member of Local 703 since 1977. He first joined the Teamsters while working as a warehouseman for Dominick’s Finer Foods. Tom was swiftly appointed as a union steward to ensure better representation for grocery and foodservice members and was appointed a Local 703 Sergeant-at-Arms in the 1980s. Following an extended local trusteeship in the early 1990s, a new leadership slate was elected by the members of Local 703 and Tom was seated as Secretary-Treasurer in 1995. Members have continued to re-elect Tom as their dedicated and proven leader in the years since. Tom was appointed by General President James P. Hoffa to the International's Warehouse Division for the Central Region in April 2011.


Tom became a Plan Manager with the Chicago-Area Benefit Trust Funds in 1995 as well. In the early 2000s, he joined the Teamsters Volunteers in Politics political action committee for Teamsters Joint Council 25. In 2004, Tom was officially elected as a Trustee on the Joint Council 25 Executive Board. In the years that followed, he also served as Recording Secretary before being elected the Joint Council's Secretary-Treasurer.


Tom has been an active supporter and tenured contributor to the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans. He is committed to educating fund trustees throughout the union to protect and sustain the benefits earned and received by Teamster members everywhere. Tom became the Secretary of the Foundation in 2014 and will be appointed President in 2017.

Anthony "Tony" Carioscia first joined Teamsters Local 703 as a member in 1986, working as a warehouseman and driver for Combined Foods. Over the following six years, Tony proudly worked in the grocery and food processing divisions and was elected a Teamster steward by his co-workers. In 1992, he was appointed a union business agent and organizer, and later joined Secretary-Treasurer Tom Stiede as a full-time Trustee. In serving the Local 703 membership, Tony has worked with Trustee Sam Scianna to organize more than 500 new members. He is the Director of the Local 703 Hispanic Caucus and a member of the Chicago Federation of Labor.

Trustee Jesse Miranda first joined the Teamsters Union as a truck driver in 1961, working hard and paying dues as a member of Teamsters Local 705. For decades, Jesse represented his co-workers as a union steward, driving a truck for 29 years across the City of Chicago. After retiring as a 40-year Teamster from Local 705, Jesse served his community for three years as a member of the Berwyn Police Department. In 2007, he returned to union service and was elected a Trustee on the Local 703 Executive Board. Jesse strongly encourages all young workers today to join the Teamsters — "the most effective and progressive union in the United States."
